Texturality

Abstract

The aim of this article is to introduce aspects of what we call “texturality”, based on the etymological familiarity between the words textile and text, whose origins go back to the Latin verb texere. To do this, we start with a critical analysis of the arguments put forward by British anthropologist Tim Ingold (2022) in his work Lines: a brief history, in order to propose possible gestural, historical and aesthetic approaches that reconnect the instances of textile and text. These approaches take place especially through the visual-tactile element of texture, considering the technological evolution and gender tensions of the performances of weaving, reading and writing in the West.
