Este ensayo ofrece una aproximación metodológica para la investigación de la moda indígena en Abya Yala, con base en los aprendizajes que han ofrecido investigaciones recientes sobre las artes indígenas norteamericanas. Dichas metodologías deben estar enraizadas en los sistemas de pensamiento, las formas de investigación y las cosmovisiones propias de las culturas indígenas. El carácter relacional de los sistemas de conocimiento indígenas permite la co-existencia de múltiples verdades y se aceptan como autoridades a personas y objetos indígenas que han sido tradicionalmente excluidos de la construcción del conocimiento académico occidental. Este ensayo propone centrar la investigación de la moda indígena en los paradigmas nativos para reescribir las narrativas hegemónicas, dando protagonismo a las personas, los objetos y las cosmovisiones indígenas.
